The
Oregon State Hospital (OSH), which is part of the
Department of Human Services, is currently recruiting for
full-time positions located in Salem. The OSH
Rehabilitation Services Department employs approximately 50
staff who provide services to individuals with mental
illnesses in adult, forensic and geriatric programs.
Services include Recreation Therapy, Occupational Therapy,
Music Therapy, Art Therapy and Physical Therapy. The Oregon
State Hospital (OSH) provides psychiatric evaluation,
diagnosis, and treatment for mentally and emotionally ill
adult specialty populations from throughout the state.
Inpatient services are currently licensed at 681 beds on 19
hospital units and residential services at 96 beds on 3
units. These 22 units function on campuses in both Salem
and Portland, Oregon.
Qualifications
for Rehabilitation Therapist (Art, Music & Recreational
Therapist):
To qualify as an
ART THERAPIST, you
must:
Have a Master's degree in art therapy,
AND Be
certified as an Art Therapist (or certification
eligible),
AND Be
registered with the American Art Therapy
Association.
OR,
To qualify as a
MUSIC THERAPIST, you
must:
Have a Bachelor's degree in music therapy,
AND Be
certified as a music therapist (MT-BC) by the Certification
Board for Music Therapy (or certification eligible)
OR,
To qualify as a
THERAPEUTIC RECREATION SPECIALIST, you
must:
Have a Bachelor's degree in therapeutic recreation,
AND Hold a
certification as a therapeutic recreation specialist
(obtained through the National Council for Therapeutic
Recreation Certification) or be certification eligible.
Compensation: $2,990 - $4,356 MONTHLY

What
is Art Therapy?
An
interactive art experience.
Leader:
Beth Ann Short MA, ATR
Are you interested in the field of art therapy, but don't
know what it's all about?
This interactive talk will answer any questions you might
have.
Short will discuss a brief history of Art Therapy as well
as discuss the importance of having a Master's in Art
Therapy when using it in mental health treatment.
She will also cover the education process, credentials
available, ethical use and job hunting.
The second half of the presentation will be a hands on art
making session. This is not a therapy session, but an
opportunity to create a piece of art about yourself.
For
participants 18 and older.

Making
Crafting
our Voices: A Women's Creativity Group
Leader:
Serena Appel
Take
some time out for yourself! Come work on creative
projects in a supportive atmosphere, with other like-minded
women.
In this group, we will work on different methods of idea
generation & creative problem-solving, both together
and as a group, overcoming procrastination and the
"Artist's Block," and contemporary ways of viewing women's
creativity that may surprise you. We will also focus
on learning to give and receive non-judgemental feedback,
as well as asking for what we need for ourselves and
getting those need met. All levels or styles of creative
experience are welcome. We will be using a variety of
art and craft materials; feel free to use what's in the
studio, or bring out ephemera, 1/2 finished projects, or
materials that are special to you (trust us: we'd love to
see them!).
Cost:
$20 per meeting
This group meets the 2nd & 4th Fridays of each month
from 6:30-9:30pm
January 8th & 22nd, February 5th & 19th, March 5th
& 19th
Participants should register with the studio at least 2
days prior to each Friday meeting!
Diabetes
Art Therapy Support Group for Kids
Leader:
Beth Ann Short MA, ATR
This
art therapy group is for participants 18 and younger.
This group furnishes older kids with the opportunity to be
role-models/mentors to younger children newly
diagnosed. Younger participants will see hope in
their stories. The Diabetes support groups are led by
a Master's Level Art Therapist.
Groups will be structured
with a check-in time, a short art directive and time for
members to process and discuss art created. Each week
the group will be led using an art therapy experiential to
explore feelings and struggles using a specific
directive that will serve as a vehicle for group
conversation. Some topics addressed in this group
include when participants first were diagnosed, needles,
family support and tips for managing in our busy
world.
A healthy snack will be available.
You
must have confirmation from the studio for your youth to be
in this group.
Thursday
Nights 12/11, 1/29, 2/26, 3/26, 4/30 & 5/28 from
6:30-7:45pm
This
group is paid weekly with a drop-in
rate.

Diabetes
Art Therapy Support Group for Youth 12-18
Years
Lead
by Karen “Kazz” Artis ATR
Groups
will be structured with a check-in time, a short art
directive and time for members to process and discuss art
created.
Each discussion group will by using an art
directive to explore issues that face pre-adolescent and
adolescent youth who manage Diabetes Type 1.
Topics may
include dealing with feelings, diagnosis, treatment woes,
testing woes and family relationships. A healthy
snack will be available.
This
group will begin once there are 3 or more participants
signed up.
A monthly date will also be decided upon once we
have a group.
$20.00
per session
Diabetes
Support Group for Parents
Leader:
Teresa Weis MA, MFT
Teresa
is a marriage and family therapist with a background in
supporting diabetic youth through support/mentor
programming. She has training in diabetes and
nutrition education and has done research (both graduate
and undergraduate) in diabetes and eating disorders and
associated family dynamics. She is also a parent and
has been living with Type 1 diabetes since age 12.
Teresa currently supports youth and families in a public
school setting and in private practice at an office within
The 100th Monkey Studio.

With the growing understanding of the mind/body connection
for greater
mental health, both yoga and art offer profound ways of
connecting
people to their authentic source. Many types of clients
respond to the
sense of groundedness that creativity and movement bring to
the
experience of counseling.
In this experiential workshop, learn how to bring a
mindfulness-based
practice to sessions with clients. Find out what helps
clients find
their own sense of personal power in the therapeutic
process. Develop
confidence in integrating art and yoga with clients by
addressing a
range of clinical issues. Gain an understanding of the
basics of the
chakra system for emotional well-being, the essentials of
yoga therapy
and Jungian art therapy, as well as the use of mandala and
color work
with clients.
Pencils,
makers and paper will be provided, please bring a yoga mat
and any props you may need, wear comfortable clothes,
eating a light lunch is recommended.
Instructors:
Rebecca Bloom, MPS, ATR-BC, LMHC, is a visiting core
faculty in the graduate psychology program at Antioch
University
Seattle. She has a private practice in Seattle.

for nine years. DeMartini has studied extensively with Ana
