Practice Description:
I specialize in Art Therapy and have also been trained in traditional verbal methodologies, Family Therapy, Sand Tray Therapy, and PhotoTherapy. I work with groups, families, and individuals. Since 1997 I have worked in medical, outpatient, inpatient, juvenille justice, school-based settings and with at-risk youth. I have also provided in-service presentations and sat on panels to educate the community about the benefits and ethical use of Art Therapy in counseling.
I use an eclectic approach in my practice, tailoring to the needs of each individual client. I see the art and process of Art Therapy as a safe holding space or a "transitional object". This process gives clients the opportunity to project struggles and/or concerns interfering with daily functioning and address them in a structured and safe environment. I consider the art product as an additional voice in treatment. This voice provides additional information that may have been difficult in the past for the client to express verbally. Art Therapy provides an approachable environment for clients to explore overwhelming problems. My private therapy office is in The 100th Monkey Studio, an open studio art space that fosters all levels of art, creativity, and growth in individuals. The studio space is a community of support and resources for artists and art therapists.
